When our good friend and fellow GreenAngels Woodchopper, George Finkbeiner, passed away, we wanted to honour his memory in a lasting way with a special tribute that would exemplify the generous way George led his life. Our friend Jane suggested Kiva Microlending—an international, nonprofit crowdfunding & lending organization whose mission is to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world.
A Kiva team was formed, Friends of Woodchopper George, a group of like-minded folks who believe in people helping people, just as George did. To date, $8,300 has been contributed to the Kiva team and has resulted in more than 320 loans. George would be so pleased to know that his memory lives on through donations that help others build a better life for themselves and their families. Please support the GreenAngels Woodchoppers and in return we will support the Kiva fund in memory of our friend, George. It is truly a gift that never stops giving.
GreenAngels was founded by Dave Howe and Ina Timmer and many of their friends will remember the start as the “GreenAngels Woodchoppers", a team of retired men on Pender Island BC, who have been chopping together for the past 10 years, selling cords of wood to support charitable causes to the tune of over $120,000. They're a stalwart, loyal bunch who derive pleasure and satisfaction from helping out the community. With an average age of seventy, they can likely out-chop many a younger man, and do it all by hand—no mechanical splitters allowed!
Thank you for supporting GreenAngels and the Woodchoppers.
